Welcome Message from Chris

Thank you for visiting my site!  I want to thank you for taking the time to learn about me and consider how impactful you are in selecting your local school board leaders.

As a community, we value our children and demand that they receive the highest quality education in safe, modern public schools where they are taught a relevant, caring, and equitable program, led by highly qualified, nurturing teachers and staff.  Children are our future; this is what they are owed; this is what I believe; this is what I will fight for.”

During my service on the Board of Education, San Luis Coastal has kept schools and class sizes small; added additional counseling services to address childrens’ social-emotional needs; focused on student achievement and closing the achievement gap; maintained a fiscally sound budget; created strong career/technical learning pathways; increased advanced placement and arts and music offerings; opened innovative, hands on learning labs; established a dual immersion language elementary school on the coast; opened wellness centers at San Luis Obispo and Morro Bay High Schools; seen math and English language standardized test scores increase; completely rebuilt San Luis Obispo and Morro Bay High Schools to serve students now and in the future; won a coveted national award for its work on equity; and at the state level been recognized for its innovative programs.

But there is more to be done.  We need to focus our efforts on:

  • Academic excellence: This includes our top priority of closing the achievement gap; which means the development of metrics to measure program success; and increasing programs to serve at-risk youth.

  • Support staff and families:  Continue efforts to recruit and retain highly qualified and diverse personnel; improve communications to our community; create and support opportunities for parent involvement, education, and engagement.

  • Student wellness: Continue to recognize the value of social-emotional well-being, mental health, and inclusivity and provide ongoing support of campus Wellness Centers and other mental health programs; provide nutritious farm-to-table meals for all students; and decrease chronic absenteeism.

  • Effectively manage our resources: Maintain strong district financial resources; assuring that the $350 million bond program has strict oversite so that all of the necessary work on our campuses can be completed; and work with our employee groups to achieve the best working conditions and pay in San Luis Obispo County.
